After the initial meeting, you'll need to talk with Lyris 3 more times, then meet them in the Sanctuary in Ironroot Basin. You'll first meet Lyris in the Broken Captial (you can't miss them, the conversation will automatically start as you make your way through the first tower before you meet Cyd). Hardcore Mode unlocks after you've completed the game once on any difficulty. You don't have to do this all in one sitting, so it shouldn't be too rough of a time. You can also use a separate save file to practice areas beforehand and do your recorded run on your speedrun save. If you want to give yourself a better chance, you can upload your save file to the PS Cloud or a USB after each area and use it as a backup in case you feel like you're spending too much time in any specific area.
